People often ask us which is better, aluminum or iron. In terms of value for the money that depends on the application of the final product.
What we call iron nowadays is a treated steel product and in general steel will be stronger and cost less than aluminum. But aluminum will resist corrosion better and doesn't weigh as much as steel.
So to make a big gate, or for fences that are going to see more than a typical amount of salt spray we're far more likely to advise you to pay the extra for the aluminum. For most backyards, however, steel is fine and offers the better value.
